Wind chime time....

Picture

Switching gears from mobiles to making wind chimes with wine bottles and treasures I picked up off the beach.

Successfully cut the bottoms off my wine bottles. Now I can begin construction. I've decided to use red and white beads on the fishing line to add a little "pop" of color. Since I've decided to work with beads I'm using the bottoms of the wine bottle as my bead holders making it easier to get them.

Planning out some mobiles....

Picture

Planning out a couple of more mobiles.

I don't what takes longer -
picking all the pieces to use;
planning the design
or actually constructing the mobile.

It certainly isn't just a simple process of grabbing some pieces and tying them together; there's a lot of thought and planning involved before the construction begins.

A different style of mobile....

Picture

I decided to do something different with this mobile.

I really liked this big piece of wood in the center of this piece but doing everything horizontal just gets a little old. I felt like this piece needed to be in a vertical position. This is what I was inspired to create.

This is probably the biggest mobile I've made so far.

I'm feeling like a beach hippie....

It's been a couple busy days making these mobiles. It's always fun to see the finished product. It brings great satisfaction to know that all the cussing and redoing to get all the knots just right can FINALLY produce such nice results.

The beach gives me interesting treasures....

Picture

Time to make some mobiles.

Other than the brown twine that I sometimes use, everything else is recycled from things I pick up on the beach. I find some really cool things on the beach when I'm lucky - I've even found turtle scales on occasion - that's a real treasure!

A couple different pieces today....

A little Christmas art - just had to do the final touches on these guys and then I had the time and the inclination to do a little sea glass art today.

Building Christmas trees....

Picture

This is what it looks like when I'm building Christmas trees.

I glue each piece of glass in and then I use my blue glass as a wedge to hold the piece in place until the glue sets. I've learned to use the blue glass as my wedges because I discovered that sometimes I miss removing a wedge. I've had instances where I'm giving someone a tree and I notice a loose wedge piece still in it.

Sometimes I have to balance a tile on top of it to hold the piece in the proper position. Other times I have to build a pile of tiles up the side of the tree to keep that one piece of glass in place until it dries.

I can usually do 2 layers at a time in the morning and leave it to dry until early afternoon then add another 2 layers.

It takes approximately 2 weeks to complete a tree and I'm usually working on 4 at a time.

Christmas gnome suncatchers....

Picture

Starting to paint my Christmas suncatcher ornaments. It's time to paint the Christmas lights and because it's such a tiny space I need to paint it dot by dot using a toothpick.

These are painted with translucent paint and I have learned that I'm not partial to the background being completely clear so I'm using the brownish paint on the background. When the light is shining through it, it's much more translucent and not nearly as dark as it shows in this picture.

Finishing up some suncatchers....

Painting some of my suncatchers.

Because the paint I use has the consistency of water and the areas I'm working in are very small I have found that the best method for me to apply the paint easiest is to use toothpicks and eye droppers. Sometimes the space is big enough to add a few drops with the dropper but other areas I need to dip the toothpick in the paint bottle then carefully drag the toothpick into all the small spaces.  The paint is translucent so when the light shines through they are very pretty.

Put them in your window - it's pretty and also makes birds aware that there's something there so they don't fly into the window or on your screen door to remind people that there's a screen there and they don't accidently walk through it - LOL have YOU ever done that?? Hang it from the rearview mirror of your car.... do you have any other ideas for me?

Flower power....

Picture

Sea glass flowers. Pretty little card. I don't know if it's the color but it feels like a delicate card to me.

For those that aren't aware I color the backside of the clear glass with a marker because just putting clear glass on a white card really doesn't have a lot of affect.

I needed to find a good way to use all the clear glass I pick up. It's the one I find the most when beach walking. So I started coloring it. I read somewhere that rubbing the glass with oil makes it clearer - I have tried that and it's true but it also takes away that frosty look that is traditionally sea glass. I have found that I can rub the backside before I color it and that does allow the color to show through better while still keeping the frosty look on the top.

All the little details involved in creating a card.

Who knew there was an artist lurking within? Certainly not me.

It started with my Mom giving me some paints that she wasn’t using but I never did anything with them because “I wasn’t artistic” - according to myself. We really need to learn to have a kinder inner voice because I have discovered that apparently I am artistic.

In early 2018 I was introduced to an artist on Instagram from Australia who makes the most beautiful art. I looked at it and was truly inspired. I thought how hard can it be to put dots on some rocks. I had never felt that I was artistic at all but this woman has changed me forever! So I began and since that time I have started following even more rock artists to inspire me.

In late 2019 my sister in law introduced me to another Instagram person who creates coloring books. Drawing is another thing I said I could never do but thanks to the inspiration I am receiving from this woman and through various social media sources I have discovered that I actually can draw.

So the lesson is....you never really know what you are capable of until you actually try it! Never say never, I can’t etc. to yourself. Obviously I have to change my words and thoughts from - "I'm not artistic" and "I can't draw" to.....
"Cool something new! Let's give it a try and see where it goes!" And now when people ask me what I do I say - I am an Artist!

I look forward to expanding my creativity. Thank you for your interest and support.
