Kokopelli window art....

I originally made this pattern when a customer requested a wine bottle chime with Kokopellis painted on it. Now I'm using the same pattern to create  a piece of faux stained glass window art.

I'm trying something new - on an acrylic sheet I've painted the abstract background with alcohol ink - not something I've ever used before. It sure is smelly.

Then I use my liquid leading to outline the design on the sheet. Once that dries I'm using my Pebeo vitrail paints to finish the piece. It will look great in the window as the paint is translucent and the light will shine through it.

This is on a clear sheet so everything white you see is actually clear.   8x10 size

Recycling wine bottles into art....

Recycling wine bottles into faux stained glass vases.

First it's a matter of drinking the wine LOL then I have to cut and sand the bottle. I'm getting so good at cutting bottles now.

Then I draw my design and put it inside the bottle. I outline it using Gallery Glass liquid leading. Once the leading is dry I paint it with translucent paint - my paint of choice is Pebeo Vitrail. It creates such a beautiful finish when dry. It's a translucent paint so you could even put a little sand in the bottom of the bottle, to make it level, then put an led candle inside it. It looks beautiful.

Some fun Christmas suncatchers....

Picture

While I wait for the glue to dry on the sea glass Christmas trees that I'm building, I am working on more suncatchers to replenish my supply. I'm using some acrylic discs to create fun Christmas suncatchers or tree ornaments - however you wish to enjoy them.

Finished project....

Here we go. Start to finish. Draw the piece, then outline it with leading. Use my markers to set out the color palette on the original drawing. Then paint it, with a few alterations while painting to make the colors more balanced. Then it's done. Now I just have to drill a couple holes in the acrylic panel so I can hang it.

I did learn an important lesson - sadly I found out the hard way that acrylic panels scratch easily. I was working on the board I use for sorting my sea glass and after finishing when I held up my piece to admire it I found a bunch of scratches on the back. In the future I will only remove the protective cover on the side I am painting. I will tell the recipients of the pieces about the back covering and they can decide whether or not to remove it.

Let the painting begin....

Picture

The lead outlining is finished and dried.

Next step - time to paint. I used some markers to figure out my color pattern on my original drawing and now it's time to start applying paint - this is the fun part! Got all my tools ready - toothpicks and eye droppers to apply the paint with, Q-tips in case I make a mistake and of course my paints. Pint Art paint that I found in Mexico, Pebeo Vitrail paint and of course Gallery Glass.

Zentangle faux stained glass window art....

Picture

All the outlining is done now I can start painting. I think I'm doing it in combinations of greens and blues and I'm going to add a little silver acrylic paint just to make a pop. It's going to be a slow process because the paint I work with has the consistency of water so I can't put paint side by side or there's be good likelihood that it will run into each other. I have to do one section and nothing around it until it dries. Then I can put the color that will be next to it. Slow and steady - have patience! This is my mantra as I tend to like to have projects that I can start and finish the same day! I'm learning - slowly, slowly - to get past that expectation and allow things to progress over a number of days. Maybe that's why I tend to have multiple things going at once so while I'm waiting on one thing I can still be working on something else.  We'll see how it turns out. I'm excited!

Drawing inspiration from a beautiful faux stained glass piece....

Picture

The image on the left is beautiful gallery glass artwork by Lucy Shear that came across my newsfeed this morning.

She's inspired me to try adapting my zentangle designs into a faux stained glass artwork. The image on the right is the design I am creating. After I finish drawing it I will outline it with liquid lead onto an 8 x 10 acrylic sheet. There's going to be a lot of lead outlining to get done before I can start painting but I'm excited to see how this works. I'm feeling that this piece will be done in shades of blue and green. I'll be using translucent paints so when this finished piece is displayed in a window it will be just beautiful! I've also decided I should get some of the Gallery Glass gold leading because look how beautiful it is in Lucy's piece!

Who knew there was an artist lurking within? Certainly not me.

It started with my Mom giving me some paints that she wasn’t using but I never did anything with them because “I wasn’t artistic” - according to myself. We really need to learn to have a kinder inner voice because I have discovered that apparently I am artistic.

In early 2018 I was introduced to an artist on Instagram from Australia who makes the most beautiful art. I looked at it and was truly inspired. I thought how hard can it be to put dots on some rocks. I had never felt that I was artistic at all but this woman has changed me forever! So I began and since that time I have started following even more rock artists to inspire me.

In late 2019 my sister in law introduced me to another Instagram person who creates coloring books. Drawing is another thing I said I could never do but thanks to the inspiration I am receiving from this woman and through various social media sources I have discovered that I actually can draw.

So the lesson is....you never really know what you are capable of until you actually try it! Never say never, I can’t etc. to yourself. Obviously I have to change my words and thoughts from - "I'm not artistic" and "I can't draw" to.....
"Cool something new! Let's give it a try and see where it goes!" And now when people ask me what I do I say - I am an Artist!

I look forward to expanding my creativity. Thank you for your interest and support.
