Wind chimes with beach treasures....

Picture

I love the diversity of my art. I've been going around in circles doing sea glass Christmas trees, sea glass cards, suncatchers and most recently beach treasure mobiles. I took some time out to make a couple of wine bottle wind chimes.

Everything I use for my wind chimes, other than the beads, are recycled items, from the wine bottle to the fishing line and all the things that I've picked up from the beach.

I tend to use shell pieces and seed pods to create my wind chimes. I tried a few with pieces of sea glass in the design but it doesn't really appeal to me as a decorative piece and doesn't make a great sound as a clacker piece. It's all about trial and error so now I've learned to use things from nature in my chimes.

Wind chime time....

Picture

Switching gears from mobiles to making wind chimes with wine bottles and treasures I picked up off the beach.

Successfully cut the bottoms off my wine bottles. Now I can begin construction. I've decided to use red and white beads on the fishing line to add a little "pop" of color. Since I've decided to work with beads I'm using the bottoms of the wine bottle as my bead holders making it easier to get them.

Wine bottle wind chimes....

Picture
-

Switching gears from sea glass cards to making wind chimes with wine bottles and treasures I picked up off the beach.

I've cut my bottles - I'm getting really good at that. I've finally found the technique that works great for me. I think I've got about a 95% success rate in cutting my bottles.

Now it's a matter of sorting through all the goodies I've picked up off the beach and decide which ones to use in the chimes.

The next decision will be - do I want it to be made with just plain fishing line or do I want it to be a little fancier - in which case I will put beads on the fishing line between the adornments to add a little more color and flair to the piece.

Simple, clear wind chimes....

Picture

Bits of shells, tile, discarded fishing line and recycled wine bottles used to create wind chimes. These are a couple of my very plain wind chimes which just show off all the interesting beach pieces.

Alternating between building trees and painting bottles....

Picture

I'm alternating between building sea glass Christmas trees and painting a wine bottle wind chime today. I've found that my wine bottle cutting device actually is really good to use to hold my bottle while I'm painting it. It's quite tricky to paint on a bottle because the translucent paint I use has the consistency of water so I have to do a very small portion at a time, trying to keep to the most level part of the bottle so the paint doesn't run down the sides before it dries. The creativity continues.

Kokopelli wind chime

Picture

This is a special request I had for a wine bottle wind chime. It will have 3 kokopellis painted on it and chimes made from shells and bits collected from the beach.

Trying to create a better work station....

Picture

Creativity isn't always about art. Today I had to get creative and find a better way to work on my wind chimes. So I created this workstation. Now I'm ready to string the various seashells, seed pods and other bits and pieces I pick up on my beach walks. I even pick up discarded fishing line to use as my string.

Who knew there was an artist lurking within? Certainly not me.

It started with my Mom giving me some paints that she wasn’t using but I never did anything with them because “I wasn’t artistic” - according to myself. We really need to learn to have a kinder inner voice because I have discovered that apparently I am artistic.

In early 2018 I was introduced to an artist on Instagram from Australia who makes the most beautiful art. I looked at it and was truly inspired. I thought how hard can it be to put dots on some rocks. I had never felt that I was artistic at all but this woman has changed me forever! So I began and since that time I have started following even more rock artists to inspire me.

In late 2019 my sister in law introduced me to another Instagram person who creates coloring books. Drawing is another thing I said I could never do but thanks to the inspiration I am receiving from this woman and through various social media sources I have discovered that I actually can draw.

So the lesson is....you never really know what you are capable of until you actually try it! Never say never, I can’t etc. to yourself. Obviously I have to change my words and thoughts from - "I'm not artistic" and "I can't draw" to.....
"Cool something new! Let's give it a try and see where it goes!" And now when people ask me what I do I say - I am an Artist!

I look forward to expanding my creativity. Thank you for your interest and support.
